Harrisburg, North Carolina - Andy Santerre, two-time NASCAR Busch North Series Champion and driver of the #6 Bessey Motorsports, Aubuchon Hardware Chevrolet, took the checkered flag in the Budweiser 150 at Seekonk Speedway on Saturday, June 19, 2004.

The previous two seasons' races at Seekonk proved to be low spots in the otherwise stellar Championship seasons for Santerre and the Bessey Motorsports team. In 2002, Santerre was running in the top-3 when his car began to overheat, he finished a dismal 19th. In 2003, Santerre was running a strong 2nd when he and a lapped car made contact on a restart, Santerre lost numerous laps in the pits while his team made repairs, they finished last.

No one was happier than Santerre to finally capture the checkered flag, "Seekonk has been a thorn in our side for the past two seasons," the 35-year old Santerre commented. "We have run well in the past, but have had bad luck and poor finishes. There is nothing more frustrating than to know you have a car capable of winning, not just once, but twice, and not being able to capitalize. I can't say enough about (car owners) Joe and Nancy (Bessey) my team and our sponsors, Aubuchon Hardware and Castle Chemical, they give us the opportunity to win races week in and week out and I can't thank them enough."

Santerre started the Budweiser 150 in the 5th position and spent the first half of the race getting in position to battle for the lead. Santerre and veteran, Dave Dion proceeded to race side-by side for several laps before Santerre was finally able to make the pass for the lead stick on lap 79.

"That is the most fun I have had racing in a long time," Santerre said after the event. "I ran on the outside of Dion for the lead and we raced hard but clean. Dion was a gentleman and gave me the lane." Santerre continues, "Late in the race there was a spin right in front of us leaders and I slowed up to avoid the melee. Dion and Olsen got by me, so I had to race extra hard to get back to the lead. Olsen and I raced in close quarters for five or six laps and he raced me just as clean. That is how racing is suppose to be, clean, hard and fun."

With his second victory of the 2004 season and his 18th career victory, Santerre regains the point lead in the NASCAR Busch North Series with a 19-point advantage over 2001 Champion, Mike Olsen.
