At Seekonk, Regains Point Lead - June 12, 2004

SEEKONK,
Mass. Andy Santerre found himself in one new location and
one familiar place Saturday night at Seekonk Speedway in the fifth
annual Budweiser 150. He won his first career NASCAR Grand National
Division, Busch North Series race at the historic third-mile track,
and he regained the Busch North Series point lead he lost last month
after winning the last two championships. It was sweet revenge after
finishing last in this event one year ago.
Santerre
started fifth and seemed to be in control after passing Busch Pole
winner Dave Dion on lap 79 following a six-lap side-by-side duel.
But he backed off in anticipation of a caution flag that never occurred
on lap 131, giving Mike Olsen the lead for one lap. Quickly recovering
from his error, Santerre repassed Olsen to win by 0.767 seconds.
Matt Kobyluck put on a late charge to take third, while Brian Hoar
nipped Dion for fourth in the closing laps. Kelly Moore, Bryon Chew,
Mike Johnson, Ryan Moore, and Eddie MacDonald completed the top
ten as 16 cars finished on the lead lap and every starter was running
at the finish.

Dion’s Busch Pole was the 21st of his career, second to Kelly
Moore on the all-time list. K. Moore was the PowerAde Power Move
of the Race winner for gaining seven positions from start to finish,
while Kobyluck captured the Featherlite Most Improved Driver Award
for finishing 25 spots better than the previous race at Lime Rock
Park. Ryan Seaman was the top Auto Meter Rookie of the Year contender
for the third time in four races.
With
previous point leader Brad Leighton running a partial schedule and
missing the Seekonk event, Santerre took the point lead by 19 points
over Olsen entering next Friday night’s Aubuchon Hardware
150 at Stafford Motor Speedway. Ryan Moore is third, 66 points behind
the leader.
