The "Racing For Clean Air" Team Captain Andy Santerre
Finishes Second At Stafford - June 18, 2004

STAFFORD SPRINGS, Conn. – Kelly Moore made a set of Goodyear Eagles last 150 laps and held off a fresh-tired Andy Santerre to win Friday night’s Aubuchon Hardware 150 NASCAR Grand National Division, Busch North Series race at Stafford Motor Speedway. Matt Kobyluck who also chose not to pit, finished a close third with Mike Olsen and Dale Quarterley completing the top five. Dave Dion, Bill Penfold, Brian Hoar, Mike Johnson, and Bobby Dragon were sixth through tenth.

Kelly Moore led all but one lap, the 35th circuit when Santerre slipped past, only to have the order reversed again on the 36th tour. After a long green flag run, most of the leaders pitted at lap 89, with Santerre restarting eighth. He was second within 13 laps, but Moore would not be dislodged from the top spot despite two major moves by Santerre on the 138th and 145th laps. It was the 26th Busch North victory for Moore, extending his own series record, but the first since August 2003.

Moore started second and averaged 75.524 miles per hour, as just three caution periods slowed the action for 19 laps. His margin of victory was 0.162 seconds. Bryon Chew was a first-time Busch Pole Award winner, but finished 17th. Dale Quarterley swept the PowerAde Power Move of the Race Award for advancing 15 places from start to finish, as well as the Featherlite Most Improved Driver Award for improving 13 spots from last week’s race at Seekonk, Mass. Charles Lewandoski was the highest-placed Auto Meter Rookie of the Year contender. Of 25 starters, 23 were running at the finish, with 15 on the lead lap.

Santerre expanded his point lead to 34 points over Olsen in quest of his third straight Busch North Series title. Quarterley is third, 117 points back. The series continues next Saturday night, June 26, with the Sunoco 150 at Holland International Speedway in Holland, N.Y.
