WATERFORD,
Conn - Mike
Johnson was in complete control of every aspect of the competition
in Saturday night’s Kobyluck Corporations 150 at Waterford
Speedbowl. The Johnson Lumber Ford driver won the Busch Pole and
led every lap to score his first NASCAR Grand National Division,
Busch North Series victory of the 2004 season. He finished half
a second ahead of runner-up Mike Stefanik, while race sponsor Matt
Kobyluck finally broke the jinx of his home track to finish third.
The
biggest news of the evening was in the Busch North Series point
race, where Mike Olsen’s fourth place brought him within
14 points of champion and point leader Andy Santerre, who suffered
a rare uncompetitive race and came home 11th. Joey McCarthy advanced
from tenth to finish fifth, with Bryon Chew, Dale Quarterley, Ryan
Moore, Jamie Aube, and Brian Hoar completing the top ten. Fifteen
cars were on the lead lap as 21 of 24 entries saw the checkered
flag.

Johnson
averaged 58.679 miles per hour through six caution flags for 32
laps to score his seventh career Busch North Series win. It was
his second Waterford triumph, and also gave his family team at least
one victory in each of their five years with the series. Charles
Lewandoski earned the PowerAde Power Move of the Race Award by advancing
six places from start to finish, and was also the leading Auto Meter
Rookie of the Year contender. Jamie Aube scored the Featherlite
Most Improved Driver Award for improving 12 places over his finish
in the preceding Busch North Series race.
The
Busch North Series marks its first superspeedway appearance of the
2004 season and its first of four events on NASCAR NEXTEL Cup weekends
next week in the Siemens 125 at New Hampshire International Speedway.
Practice and qualifying are set for Thursday, July 22, with the
Siemens 125 on Saturday, July 24.
